From Shopping Anxiety to Cooking Pasta While Tommie Shops for My Gym Fits

Here’s the truth: I’m NOT a shopaholic. Far from it. In fact, shopping often feels like a chore—and honestly, it gives me anxiety. Spending hours scrolling through e-shops or walking around a mall? Even writing about it makes me feel meehh.

But here’s the thing: who doesn’t want to feel good? I definitely do. You know that feeling when your outfit perfectly matches your mood and energy? Oh boy — you feel like the star of your own show. That’s when you realize just how much power clothes really have. So yeah, I’m not pretending I don’t care about clothes. I do. It’s just always felt more frustrating than fun.

With that in mind, I even tried booking a personal stylist once or twice. My verdict? Honestly, a disappointment — and a waste of money. I’m not saying stylists aren’t worth the investment; this was just my personal experience. I totally get that sometimes it’s about more than clothes — it’s the support, encouragement, and human connection that people are really seeking.

Anyway, last week, after posting a gym moment on my IG stories, it hit me: I go to the gym to train my body, maintain my mental wellness and have fun. But then I thought… What if my gym outfits actually complemented my body? Wouldn’t that make the whole experience more fun?

So here’s my confession: I want to look great at the gym (even on those days I oversleep and have 10 minutes to teleport myself there). And I want to have this style journey with more direction, less wasted time, and more fun. Which brings me to my experiment.

AI gets hyped as being capable of everything these days. But can it actually solve a girl’s fashion frustrations—and make her feel happier while working out? Let’s find out.

Oh, and I forgot to mention: Tommie - it’s AI.

Meet Tommie

For fun, I created Tommie—my personal AI stylist and shopper. (And no, I’m not one of those people who build friendships with ChatGPT.. please let’s all focus on real connections, okay? Giving it a name is just more fun and makes for a great storytelling hook.)

Here’s what I expected from Tommie:

  • Analyse my colour type

  • Analyse my body type

  • Review my current gym clothes

  • Suggest outfits from what I already own (no shopping yet)

  • Recommend small upgrades (like accessories or a single new piece)

  • Help plan future purchases based on my style inspo and budget

  • Eventually, act as a shopper: finding items, checking if they fit my profile, and building a long-term wardrobe

Basically, I wanted to set up this ‘chat’ properly so that Tommie could become a real helper for conscious shopping.

The Prompt

Here’s the initial prompt I used to “train” Tommie:

You are a highly skilled personal stylist with expertise in fashion trends, color theory, body types, and individual style preferences.Your task is to provide personalized styling advice based on my input. Follow these guidelines:

1.**Analyse my colour type**: Determine my seasonal colour palette (Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter) based on my skin tone, hair colour, and eye colour. Provide a brief explanation.

2.**Analyse my body type**: Identify my body shape (e.g., hourglass, pear, apple, rectangle) and discuss how different clothing styles can enhance my silhouette. Include suggestions for flattering cuts and styles.

3.**Analyse my outfit inspiration moodboard**: Review the provided moodboard and summarize the key themes, colours, and styles represented. Highlight any recurring elements that indicate my preferences.

4.**Evaluate my current owned clothes**: List my currently owned clothes. Assess their versatility, fit, and alignment with my colour and body type analysis. Identify any gaps or items that may not serve me well.

5.**Create outfits from owned clothes**: Curate a selection of outfits utilizing my current wardrobe. Suggest how to accessorize each outfit to achieve an elevated and polished appearance. Additionally, recommend specific items to purchase that would enhance these outfits.

6.**Offer additional new outfit ideas**: Provide fresh outfit combinations that incorporate my style preferences, body type, colour scheme, seasonal trends, and mood board. Suggest layering techniques, colour mixing, and how to combine textures for a modern look. Ensure that all advice is tailored to my specific input, considering my unique style, preferences, and lifestyle needs.

How I Fed Tommie the Data

To start, I gave Tommie super clear inputs when it started to dove deeper into each step mentioned above:

  1. Colour type: I skipped uploading my face at first. Instead, I provided hex codes of my eyes, hair, and skin tone (like in this video).

  2. Body type: I shared height, weight, and simple body shots in fitted clothes.

  3. Inspo moodboard: A few Pinterest boards.

  4. Current gym clothes: A flat-lay photo list of what I already own.

Outfits From My Current Gym Clothes

After all the different types of analysis, I asked Tommie to style me for different exercising situations—like running or more intense workouts. Here’s what came out of it.

  1. Running Outfits

Pretty basic combos, since my wardrobe is simple—but Tommie showed me variations I hadn’t thought of before.

2. HIIT Workout Outfits
Three ideas that looked different in a collage, but would basically look the same IRL (since the sports bra hides under a white tank). Still, it gave me starting points.

3. Gym-to-Street / Athleisure
Tommie also suggested a few “post-gym” looks that I’d actually wear to grab coffee or run errands.

The main win out of this step: I could see new possibilities using clothes I already owned.

Elevating My Wardrobe

Next, Tommie suggested an item list to elevate my basics:

🔥 New items to add:

  1. Supportive neutral leggings + one pair in sage or muted slate blue.

  2. Performance tops in soft beige or grey.

  3. Lightweight zip-up jacket (black/grey) + bomber in olive or soft beige.

  4. Neutral trainers (white/beige) for versatility.

  5. Minimal accessories (matte scrunchies, structured gym bag, clean logo socks).

It also delivered details of each suggestion and visual inspo boards. Some weren’t my vibe, but the process gave me direction. That’s exactly what I needed. Plus, some additional prompting would go a long way. We are going for a long-term here.

Tommie as a Shopper

Here’s the part I was most excited about: can Tommie actually shop for me? More precisely—can it do the searching and hand me a list of finalists?

I tested the ChatGPT agent mode, and honestly, I’m still figuring out how to get the best results. BUT—there I was, swirling pasta while Tommie was busy hunting down flare leggings in size S, trying to match my Pinterest inspo upload. So most likely with a bit more learning on my side about AI agents, and giving a bit more details to Tommie (colour, brands, etc.), the answer will be a yes. For now, even the “half job done” version works pretty well. Thank you, Tommie. The pasta was 10/10!

Fashionista? No. Happier Gym Me? Yes.

I guess it all depends on expectations. Tommie won’t magically turn me into a fashionista—nor do I want to become one. But what I do love is having a place to bounce ideas, clarify my vision, and plan outfits in a way that feels systematic, not chaotic.

Will Tommie keep up with my changing energy and lifestyle? We’ll see. For now, it’s already helping me avoid anxious shopping spirals and actually enjoy styling my gym outfits, since all the info is stored in one place instead of in my head. And that’s a pretty fabulous start.
